I seriously tried hard today to sit down a read one of the millions of books I got for christmas but I just can't! I can only read a few pages before I just feel like I have to do something else. When I was younger I could just get fully immersed in a book and read it in a day if I wanted. I just can't now. It's really frustrating! Any advice?

You need to learn how to multitask mate :) I read books, drink scotch, browse the intrawebs and listen to music all at once...
Disclaimer: that was a lie.. You need to shut everything else out. Put your computer to sleep, turn off your phone, start reading. If you still struggle after 50-70 pages.. that book is not for you, and you should give it to someone else.

Go take a walk and end up somewhere really beautiful and read there. I love hiking up to the top of a mountain peak and sitting down with a few beers and a book

The scotch wasn't a lie.

Scotch is never a lie ;) My crappy english is more due to the fact that English is my third language though :P

I barely know one language - your English isn't crappy.

I have the same problem as Alex when it comes to reading books, but for some reason The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is my antidote. I can sit down and read that book (and the following books) for hours.

I guess I should take that as a compliment. But when some of my closest friends live in the UK.. well you know :P

Yeah, I really struggle reading, but those books are captivating.

I have the same problem when it comes to reading books. I personally find it easier with some background noise such as some quiet classical music or even just the hum of a ceiling fan.

My sister can read a book in a day. It freaks me out. On Christmas she got a new one and was done before dinner.
Side note: I was looking at the anime in Best Buy and instantly thought of you.

Off-topic, but I watched "The Devil is a Part-Timer" with my lady and we both absolutely loved it, if you haven't watched it yet you absolutely need to.

I have done that before. I read all of 1Q84 in a day which is a 1157 page book though I don't know if it really counts since I went from about 7am to 3am the next day. Needless to say it was a really good book.

Also I hope that you bought it all for me! (Actually most of the stuff at best buy, mine anyways, isn't that great but it's the thought that counts.)

...yeah, I don't have any. I seem to be able to do marathons of whatever form of media that interests me, be it TV, movies, books or video games. Textbooks are the exception, which is why I don't get along with my parents...

Yep I watched it and loved it as well! I watch pretty much anything by Brains Base or white fox (they share a lot of people) since they make up almost my entire top 10 list of best anime of all time (Steins; Gate, Baccano, Durarara, Penguindrum, Princess Jellyfish [don't judge by the name, actually pretty damn awesome], Natsume's Book of Friends, and a little show called SPICE AND WOLF!).

I suffer from the same condition...though it's mostly Oppo's fault. :)

You laugh, but...
I blazed through (pun intended) something like 700 pages last week, and it wasn't because I'm a reading champion.

No judgement!
I'll need to download some of the others you mentioned then, my girl liked it so much she wanted to marathon all 13 in one sitting; I was mean and made her wait until the next day.

My wife had the same problem. Work and life got in the way and her reading habit just fell to a lower priority. When she picked up a book, she would fall asleep within ten pages. She just could not keep reading. But she kept at it, sleep notwithstanding and she is more or less back to her old ways. I find it very hard to put a book down until I finish it, provided it is interesting enough to be read.
tl;dr - keep at it, you'll eventually get back to it.
